Broadway's spring season is very much falling into place! The previously announced Main Stem production of Bright Star will land at the Cort Theatre, with performances now beginning on February 25, 2016 (from March 7), and opening night scheduled for March 24 (from March 31). Tony winner Walter Bobbie will direct the Steve Martin and Edie Brickell musical, which is set to first run at D.C.’s Kennedy Center for a limited engagement from December 2. The Cort is currently playing host to Sylvia, which will close on January 24.
The cast will include Carmen Cusack, A.J. Shively, Michael Mulheren, Stephen Bogardus, Dee Hoty, Jeff Blumenkrantz, Paul Alexander Nolan, Hannah Elless, Stephen Lee Anderson and Emily Padgett.
Bright Star, which features music by Martin and Brickell, lyrics by Brickell and a book by Martin, is set in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and travels between 1945 and 1923. Billy Cane (Shively), a young soldier just home from World War II, meets Alice Murphy (Cusack), the brilliant editor of a southern literary journal. Together they discover a powerful secret that alters their lives.
The tuner previously played a limited engagement at San Diego’s Old Globe.
