Histrionics are on the way for Jesse Tyler Ferguson on the Great White Way! The Modern Family star will make his return to the Main Stem manning the red-hot reservation line at Manhattan's number-one restaurant in Becky Mode’s Fully Committed. Directed by Jason Moore, Ferguson will play more than 40 characters in the one-man comedy, which is scheduled to play a limited engagement April 2, 2016 through July 24. Opening night is set for April 25 at the Lyceum Theatre and tickets are now on sale for the run.
Ferguson has received five Emmy nominations for his role as Mitchell Pritchett on Modern Family. Additional screen credits include The Class, Do Not Disturb, Ugly Betty, Untraceable and Wonderful World. Ferguson made his Broadway debut at the age of 21 as Chip in George C. Wolfe’s revival of On the Town; he later went on to originate the role of Leaf Coneybear in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Additional theater credits include Where Do We Live, Little Fish, The Producers and Spamalot, along with Shakespeare in the Park’s The Tempest, The Comedy Of Errors, The Merchant Of Venice, The Winter’s Tale and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
For this new production, Mode is updating the play to reflect today’s foodie and restaurant culture. You think you’re having a bad day? Meet Sam. He works the red‐hot reservation line at one of New York’s trendiest restaurants, where the best food inspires the worst behavior. Coercion, petty threats, bribes, histrionics—a cast of desperate callers, all brought to life by Ferguson, will stop at nothing to land a prime reservation, or the right table. Amid the barrage, Sam has his own problems to deal with. While juggling scheming socialites, name‐dropping wannabes, fickle celebrities and egomaniacal bosses, can he still manage to look out for himself?
Fully Committed originally played off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theater in 1999 followed by the Cherry Lane Theatre. The show has been subsequently seen in productions around the world, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, London and Paris.
The creative team will be announced later.
