The West End will pay tribute to Jonathan Larson on January 25, 2016—the 20th anniversary of the Rent composer’s death—with a special one-night-only concert. The event, titled Seasons of Larson: The Life and Times of Jonathan Larson, will play London’s Lyric Theatre and feature a company of West End performers under the direction of Hannah Chassick.
The concert will explore Larson’s musical legacy and its impact today; his works include the Pulitzer- winning Rent, as well as the semi-autobiographical tick, tick… BOOM! and Superbia.
Larson died of an aortic dissection at the age of 35 on the night before Rent’s first preview at off-Broadway’s New York Theatre Workshop. The show would go on to have a profound impact on the theater community and beyond and earn him numerous posthumous awards, including two Tony Awards and the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The musical has played London multiple times, mostly in limited revivals.
