Kelsey Grammer Tapped for Amazon Pilot
Kelsey Grammer, who will return to Broadway’s Finding Neverland on January 19, is set to star in The Last Tycoon, a drama pilot for Amazon, reports Deadline. He joins Matt Bomer and Rosemarie DeWitt for the project, inspired by the life of Irving Thalberg, a film producer of the early 1900s. Grammer will take on the role of Pat Brady, a characted based on MGM co-founder Louis B. Mayer. An imposing big-shot producer? Not much of a stretch from Charles Frohman!
Tyler Perry to Bring Passion to Fox
Another live musical telecast is heading to Fox next year…this one of biblical proportions. Stage and screen titan Tyler Perry will present a live, musical adaptation of the Last Supper and crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ…set in modern day New Orleans. The event, titled The Passion, will air on March 20, 2016 (Palm Sunday) and feature a cast of to-be-announced stars performing a variety of pop music.
Off-Broadway’s Wilder Christmas Extends
Peccadillo Theater Company’s A Wilder Christmas will now play off-Broadway’s Theatre at St. Clements through January 10, 2016. The show—a presentation of two rarely seen Thornton Wilder one-acts—opened officially on December 8. Dan Wackerman directs.
