It appears Finding Neverland is ready to fly across the pond. The Broadway.com Audience Choice Award-winning musical will head to London in January 2017. It was initially reported that the show was eyeing a West End transfer for later this year.
No word yet on exact dates, theater or casting, though it was recently speculated that current Les Miserables star and West End alum Alfie Boe will take over the role of J.M. Barrie on Broadway before reprising his performance in London. Current star Tony Yazbeck is scheduled to headline the production through March 27.
The London-set musical has English roots; the show first premiered at Curve Theatre in Leicester. At the time, it featured a score by Scott Frankel and Michael Korie and was directed by Rob Ashford. Its final incarnation, with a score by Gary Barlow and Eliot Kennedy and a book by James Graham, premiered at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts before transferring to Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
Directed by Diane Paulus, Finding Neverland follows the story of J.M. Barrie and his relationship with the family of widow Sylvia Llewelyn Davies. Llewelyn Davies' children eventually became Barrie's inspiration to write Peter Pan.
In addition to Yazbeck, the Broadway cast currently includes Kelsey Grammer as Charles Frohman (through March 26), Laura Michelle Kelly as Sylvia Llewelyn Davies and Teal Wicks as Mary Barrie.
