Nerds, A Musical Dot Comedy has called off its spring Broadway bow. The musical, directed by Casey Hushion, was scheduled to begin previews on April 1 and open officially on April 21 at the Longacre Theatre. A national tour is in the works—no word yet on dates.
The last-minute shakeup is due to the loss of a major investor, according to producer Carl Levin. “We are grateful to the one-of-a-kind creative team and cast of this incredibly funny and heartwarming musical that audiences have so enthusiastically adored thus far," he said in a statement. "We look forward to Nerds taking the country by storm."
Featuring a book and lyrics by Jordan Allen-Dutton and Erik Weiner and music by Hal Goldberg, Nerds tells the story of the rise of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. Tony nominee Rory O'Malley and Bryan Fenkart were slated to play the two tech honchos. Additional cast members included Patti Murin, Lindsay Mendez, Benny Elledge, Rob Morrison and Kevin Pariseau.
