Jeremy Jordan & More Tapped for Tangled Series
A host of Broadway favorites will lend their voices to Disney Channel’s upcoming Tangled: Before Ever After. Joining the animated series are Jeremy Jordan as teen alchemist Varian, Aladdin Tony winner James Monroe Iglehart as Lance Strongbow, Eden Espinosa as handmaiden Cassandra, Richard Kind as Uncle Monty, Sean Hayes as Pete the Guard and Jeffrey Tambor, reprising his role from the 2010 film as Big Nose. As previously reported, Tangled’s original stars Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi (currently on Broadway in She Loves Me) will return to voice Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. The series is set to premiere next year.
Dolly Parton's Bio-Musical Update
Dolly Parton is still at work on her bio-musical, but you’ll have to be patient. In an interview with Nashville’s WSMV.com, the country music icon revealed she’s about two years out from bringing her story to the Great White Way. “I just got the final scripts,” she said. “We’re telling my life story…with some new songs. The hits will be in it, but I’ve written a lot of new music as well.” Plans for a Dolly bio-musical were first reported in 2009, around the time of her Broadway composing debut with 9 to 5.
Romy & Michele Musical Heads to Seattle
Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre will play home to the world premiere of the musical adaptation of Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion. Original screenwriter Robin Schiff will pen the book, with Gwendolyn Sanford and Brandon Jay taking on the score. Director Kristin Hanggi and choreographer Kelly Devine reunite for the project after collaborating on Rock of Ages. AJ Michalka (ABC's The Goldbergs) and L.A. stage actress Stephanie Wall took to Instagram to confirm their titular roles. The show will run at the Washington venue, which was the original home for such shows as Hairspray, Aladdin and Memphis, from June 8, 2017 through July 2. Quick: What rhymes with “Post-its”?
Cheyenne Jackson Will Release New Album
Broadway favorite Cheyenne Jackson will release a new solo album later this year. Renaissance, featuring a 22-piece orchestra and a selection of tunes ranging from jazz to rock, will drop on June 3 from PS Classics. The track list features many tunes he performed as part of his cabaret Music of the Mad Men Era. Look out for a guest appearance from his 30 Rock and Xanadu workshop co-star: She Loves Me’s Jane Krakowski!
Michael C. Hall & Lena Hall Will Sing Radiohead Together
A Hedwig and her husband are reuniting at the Café Carlyle! Michael C. Hall and Tony winner Lena Hall (no actual relation, as you know) will present a Radiohead tribute at the venue on March 19. The event, titled Radiohead: Obsessed, will feature tunes from the band’s early days (think “Creep”) to its more recent hits from the 2011 album The King of Limbs. Since headlining Hedwig and the Angry Inch opposite the Tony-winner Yitzhak, Michael C. Hall starred in Lazarus at New York Theatre Workshop.
