Time to bid farewell to those revolting children at Broadway's Shubert Theatre and their terrifying headmistress Miss Trunchbull (AKA Christopher Sieber). Matilda is set to shutter on January 1, 2017; at time of closing the production will have played 37 previews and 1,555 regular performances. The musical opened on April 11, 2013.
Directed by Tony and Olivier Award winner Matthew Warchus, Matilda is the story of an extraordinary girl who dreams of a better life. Armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, Matilda dares to take a stand and change her destiny. Based on the beloved Roald Dahl novel of the same name, the musical features a book by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin.
In addition to Sieber, the cast currently includes Allison Case as Miss Honey, Amy Spanger as Mrs. Wormwood, Rick Holmes as Mr. Wormwood and Natalie Venetia Belcon as Mrs. Phelps. Mattea Conforti, Rileigh McDonald, Mimi Ryder and Alexandra Vlachos share the title role.
The Olivier-winning London production of Matilda continues to run at the West End's Cambridge Theatre.
