Melissa Errico, Claybourne Elder, Sarah Stiles and more have joined the cast of Encores!’ production of Do I Hear a Waltz?. The Stephen Sondheim and Richard Rodgers musical, the only collaboration between the two, will play New York City Center from May 11 through May 15. Evan Cabnet is set to direct the show, which will feature choreography by Chase Brock and music direction by Rob Berman.
Errico, who will play Leona Samish, earned a Tony nomination for Amour and has also starred on Broadway in My Fair Lady, Dracula and White Christmas. She returns to Encores! after appearing in One Touch of Venus. Elder made his Great White Way debut in Bonnie and Clyde and has also appeared off-Broadway in Road Show, Venice, Allegro and Two by Two; he takes on the role of Eddie Yaeger at Encores!. Stiles will play Giovanna; she received a Tony nod last year for Hand to God. Her additional stage credits include On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, Avenue Q and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
Also on board is operatic tenor Richard Troxell as Renato Di Rossi, as well as Sarah Hunt (The Last Ship), Zachary Infante (Pericles), Cass Morgan (The Bridges of Madison County), Richard Poe (All the Way) and Michael Rosen (On the Town). The ensemble will feature Kristine Bendul, Paloma Garcia-Lee, Jenny Laroche, Jennifer Locke, Nathan Madden, Skye Mattox, Devin Roberts, Manny Stark and Alex Wong.
Do I Hear a Waltz? is based on book writer Arthur Laurents’ play The Time of the Cuckoo. It follows Leona Samish, a New York secretary who travels to Venice in hopes of finding love. The musical premiered on Broadway in 1965
