Darren Criss & Sara Bareilles Set for The Little Mermaid
Oh to be part of their world! Two-time Broadway.com Audience Choice Award winner Darren Criss will take on the role of Prince Eric opposite Waitress creator Sara Bareilles’ Ariel in The Little Mermaid at the Hollywood Bowl on June 4. They will perform songs from the hit Disney movie and Broadway production as the film plays, alongside a 71-piece live orchestra. Billboard reports that Main Stem fave Tituss Burgess has also been tapped to appear as Sebastian, with Rebel Wilson as Ursula and John Stamos as Chef Louis.
BroadwayCon Sets the Date
The second annual BroadwayCon for theater lovers will take place January 27, 2017 through January 29 at the Javits Center in New York City. Names already slated to appear include Santino Fontana, Cynthia Nixon, Christopher Jackson, Lesli Margherita, Alex Brightman and Max von Essen; more than 200 Main Stem insiders are expected to be on hand to interact with fans.
Cherry Jones & Alan Cumming Enlisted for Edinburgh
It’s official! The rumors were true and two-time Tony winner Cherry Jones will reprise her role from the Broadway production of The Glass Menagerie at this year’s Edinburgh International Festival. Once again directed by John Tiffany (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), the production will run August 7 through August 21 at the King’s Theatre. Tony winner (and proud Scot) Alan Cumming is also set for the event; his Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs is scheduled to play August 6 through August 27 at The Hub.
Laura Osnes & More All About The Write Teacher(s)
Laura Osnes, Katie Rose Clarke, Lilli Cooper and Orfeh are just some of the talented performers on board for the third edition of DUETS with The Write Teacher(s) at Feinstein’s/54 Below on April 15. Conceived and produced by Megan Minutillo (in association with thewriteteachers.com), with music direction by Ben Krauss, the show will feature tunes from across the musical theater and pop canon, pairing one Broadway hopeful with his or her showbiz idol.
