A host of Broadway favorites are on tap for Barrington Stage Company’s 2016 season. The lineup includes Tony nominees Will Swenson, Jarrod Spector and Barbara Walsh, plus Wicked alum Jenni Barber, Tamara Tunie, Kyle Dean Massey, Annie Golden and Joshua Castille.
The season kicks off on May 18 with the world premiere of Presto Change-O, a new musical by Eric Price and Joel Waggoner. Marc Bruni will direct a cast that includes Spector, Walsh, Barber, Tony winner Michael Rupert, Lenny Wolpe and Bob Walton. The show will open on May 25 and run through June 11.
From June 16 through July 9, stage and screen veteran Debra Jo Rupp will headline Kimberly Akimbo, written by Pulitzer winner David Lindsay-Abaire. On June 17, Tunie will star in Christopher Demos-Brown’s American Son. The new play will run through July 9.
A starry revival of The Pirates of Penzance will run from July 15 through August 13. John Rando will direct and Joshua Bergasse will choreograph; the two previously collaborated on Barrington’s On the Town, which subsequently transferred to Broadway. The Penzance cast will include Swenson, Strallen, Massey, Tony nominee David Garrison, Jane Carr and Tony nominee Phillip Boykin.
A new Joe Iconis musical, Broadway Bounty Hunter, will kick off on August 12 and run through September 4. The tuner, featuring a book by Iconis, Lance Rubin and Jason SweetTooth Williams, will feature Golden (as a version of herself) and Jeff McCarthy.
