Here's a quick roundup of stories you may have missed today.
Aaron Tveit Gets Larger Than Ever
That got your attention, didn’t it? Undrafted, the Aaron Tveit-led dramedy about a college baseball star forced to find a fresh start, will head to theaters this summer. “It’s a combination of the two things I like to do: Play baseball and act,” Tveit told Broadway.com back when he wrapped filming in 2013. The film, which also stars Chace Crawford, Tyler Hoechlin and Joseph Mazzello, is looking at a July 15 release.
Matthew Morrison Will Sing for Queens
While you wait to catch Aaron Tveit on screen again, have some Matthew Morrison on stage. The Tony nominee and original Finding Neverland star will headline an outdoor concert with the New York Pops on July 7. Catch him then at Forst Hills Stadium in Queens.
Daisy Ridley & Naomi Watts Join Ophelia
First, we had John Boyega in Woyzeck at the Old Vic. Now, another Star Wars favorite is turning to the classics. Daisy Ridley is in final negotiations to headline Ophelia, a film that will reimagine Hamlet from its heroine’s perspective. According to Deadline, Oscar nominee Naomi Watts is also in talks to play Gertrude. Claire McCarthy will direct the project, which is based on a novel by Lisa Klein. No word yet on a production or release timeline.
P.S. On the topic of Star Wars alums, here’s the latest #Ham4Ham show from Hamilton maestro and Star Wars songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda, including a special visit (and tune!) from J. J. Abrams. May the Fourth be with you, indeed!
