Talk about star power! Three-time Tony and Oscar nominee Laura Linney and Tony winner Cynthia Nixon will star in a new Broadway production of Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes. Directed by Tony winner Daniel Sullivan, the production is set to begin previews on March 29, 2017 and officially open on April 19 at Manhattan Theatre Club’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.
Linney and Nixon will alternate in the roles of Regina Hubbard Giddens and Birdie Hubbard, both members of a strong-willed aristocratic Southern family. The actresses will play the roles in repertory, appearing opposite each other at each performance; their schedule will be announced next spring. Set in Alabama in 1900, The Little Foxes follows Regina and her ruthless clan, including her sister-in-law Birdie, as they clash in often brutal ways in an effort to strike the deal of their lives.
Sullivan, a frequent MTC collaborator, has directed Linney to Tony nominations in both MTC’s Broadway premiere of Sight Unseen and MTC’s New York premiere of Time Stands Still. The Sullivan-helmed production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Rabbit Hole at MTC earned Nixon a Tony Award.
Linney, who also received a Tony nomination for The Crucible, garnered Oscar nods for her work in You Can Count on Me, Kinsey and The Savages; she has won Emmys for Wild Iris, Frasier, John Adams and The Big C. Nixon won Emmys for Sex and the City and Law and Order: SVU and was additionally Tony-nominated for Indiscretions and Wit. Her other numerous Broadway credits include The Real Thing, The Women and Angels in America.
Additional casting and creative team will be announced later.
