Off-Broadway alum Ana Nogueira will lead the New York premiere of Engagements. The dark comedy by Lucy Teitler (a writer for USA’s Mr. Robot) will begin performances at Second Stage Theatre’s McGinn/Cazale Theatre uptown on July 18. Tickets are now on sale for the Kimberly Senior-helmed production, which will open officially on August 4.
In addition to Nogueria as Lauren, the cast will include Jennifer Kim as Allison, Omar Maskati as Ryan, Michael Stahl-David as Mark and Brooke Weisman as Catherine.
Nogueira returns to Second Stage after appearing in Mala Hierba; her additional credits include I’m Pretty F**ked Up and Knives and Other Sharp Objects off-Broadway. Kim has had recurring roles on Mozart in the Jungle, The Blacklist and Search Party. Last year, she appeared off-Broadway in Gloria. Maskati’s off-Broadway credits include Indian Ink and Disagraced. Stahl-David has appeared on the New York stage in Commons of Pensacola, The Overwhelming and Buzzer and on screen in Cloverfield and the upcoming films The Promise and LBJ. Weisman, a recent graduate of Northwestern University, will make her off-Broadway debut in Engagements.
It’s summer in New England and every weekend is someone else’s engagement party. The wildflowers, specialty cocktails, and artisanal appetizers are totally Instagram-worthy, but the people are not quite so perfect. One night, Lauren takes it into her own hands to make sure that her best friend doesn’t marry an inadequate suitor—a drunken mistake that incites a cascade of calamities, threatening to expose all of Lauren's secrets.
The production will feature scenic design by Wilson Chin, costumes by Beth Goldenberg, lighting design by Jen Schriever and sound design by Ryan Rumery. Performances are scheduled to run through August 14.
