Second Stage Theatre will kick off its 15th season with the world premiere of Chisa Hutchinson’s Somebody’s Daughter. The play, which recently made the 2016 Kilroys List (designated for works by female and trans playwrights), will begin performances in summer 2017 at Second Stage’s uptown home, the McGinn/Cazale Theatre.
The play follows Alex, a 15-year-old Asian American who seeks the help of Kate, an irreverent guidance counselor, as she fails to get her own mother to notice her. The lives and journeys of women from three generations unfold as they search for their identity.
Hutchinson is the current recipient of Second Stage's Tow Foundation grant. Her previous plays include She Like Girls, Sex on Sunday, The Subject and Dead & Breathing. Her work has been seen previously at City Parks’ Summerstage, the National Black Theater, the Contemporary American Theater Festival and Atlantic Theater Company.
Additional information, including casting and dates, will be announced at a later time.
