Renée Elise Goldsberry is leaving Hamilton this year, but don’t worry: Her new role is out of this world. The Tony winner has been tapped to star in Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi drama Altered Carbon, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She’ll take her final bow at the Richard Rodgers Theatre this fall; an exact date will be announced later.
The series, based on the Richard Mogan novel of the same name, is set in a world where the mind can be digitized and transferred between humans. Goldsberry will play Quellcrist Falconer, a leader of the revolution against the United Nations Protectorate, which now controls a number of inhabited planets. She’s also the love interest of Takeshi Kovacs, played by Joel Kinnaman.
Goldsberry’s performance as Angelica Schuyler Hamilton marked her first Tony nomination; her previous Broadway credits include Good People, Rent, The Color Purple, and The Lion King. On screen, she has appeared in The Good Wife, Sisters, One Life to Live and Ally McBeal.
No word yet on who will replace Goldsberry and join Javier Muñoz, Lexi Lawson, Brandon Victor Dixon and more in Hamilton on Broadway. As previously reported, fellow Tony winner Daveed Diggs is set to leave the blockbuster musical on July 15.
