Hamilton's Rory O'Malley & More Enlisted for Broadway Barks
Hamilton’s King Rory O’Malley, along with Tony winner Jessie Mueller, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Sean Hayes, Ana Villafañe, Ben Rappaport, Amy Spanger, Quinn VanAntwerp, James Barbour, Richard H. Blake, Chilina Kennedy and more have been added to the already starry lineup of this year’s Broadway Barks. Hosted by renowned doganizer (and stage legend) Bernadette Peters, with special co-host Gloria Estefan, the event is scheduled for July 30 in Shubert Alley. The dog and cat adoption part of proceedings will take place 3PM through 6:30 PM, with a special signing with the hosts and debut of the Broadway Barks bracelet at 12 noon.
Corbin Bleu & Sasha Clements Tie the Knot
Congratulations to the Broadway-bound Corbin Bleu and his longtime partner, actress Sasha Clements. PEOPLE writes that the pair wed over the weekend in the Santa Barbara area of California in front of 160 guests. Bleu, best known for his work in High School Musical, will return to the Main Stem in Holiday Inn this fall.
Lupita Nyong'o & Danai Gurira Set for Black Panther
After recently teaming up for Broadway’s Eclipsed, Lupita Nyong'o and Danai Gurira will reunite for the upcoming Black Panther movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nyong'o will appear as Marvel comic mainstay Nakia and Gurira as Okoye, the head of the Black Panther’s personal bodyguards, in the film. The movie is scheduled for release on February 16, 2018.
Marni Nixon Dead at 86
Marni Nixon, the mostly uncredited voice of some of the biggest movie musicals of all time, died on July 24 in New York at the age of 86. The New York Times reports that the cause was breast cancer. Nixon dubbed the singing voices of Natalie Wood in West Side Story, Deborah Kerr in The King and I, Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady and more. Nixon made her Broadway debut in 1954 in The Girl in Pink Tights; almost 50 years later she returned to the Great White Way in James Joyce’s The Dead, Follies and Nine.
Sneak Peek of Baz Luhrmann's The Get Down
We now have the main trailer for Netflix’s new musical series The Get Down from Baz Luhrmann! Tony winner Billy Porter and Jimmy Smits, along with a host of newcomers, will appear in the saga, which is set in 1970s New York. Check out the video below; the show is set to premiere on August 12.
