Renée Elise Goldsberry to Star Opposite Oprah
Werk! Renée Elise Goldsberry has landed yet another screen gig. The Hamilton Tony winner will appear in the title role opposite none other than Oprah Winfrey in HBO’s The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Deadline writes. The previously reported project from Tony winner George C. Wolfe is based on Rebecca Skloot’s bestselling nonfiction book of the same name, and follows the true story of Lacks, an African-American woman whose cells were used to create the first immortal human cell line. Goldsberry has also been tapped to star in Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi drama Altered Carbon; she is expected to take her final bow at the Richard Rodgers Theatre this fall.
Will Chase Tapped for HBO Porn Drama
Will Chase…Shakespeare by night, porn star by day? The Something Rotten! headliner will appear in a multi-episode arc on HBO’s The Deuce. According to TV Line, the porn-themed period drama, starring Broadway alums James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal, follows the legalization and rise of the porn industry in Times Square from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s.
Lea Salonga & Eric Kunze to Reunite for Fun Home
Lea Salonga and Eric Kunze will once again join forces on stage, this time in the upcoming production of Fun Home in the Philippines. As previously announced, Salonga is set to take on the role of Helen Bechdel in the Tony-winning tuner; we now know that Kunze will play her husband, Bruce. The pair, who previously starred together on Broadway in 1993 as Eponine and Marius in Les Misérables, will begin performances on November 10 at Makati’s Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in the RCBC Plaza. Fun Home is scheduled to play on Broadway through September 10; a concert featuring the Main Stem cast recently raised more than $100,000 in support of Equality Florida and the LGBTQ community of Orlando.
