Javier Muñoz on His First Impression of Hamilton
Javier Muñoz recently stopped by CBS This Morning to discuss becoming Hamilton's headliner. Previously Lin-Manuel Miranda's alternate, the Broadway alum has been with the Tony-winning musical from the very beginning. "The first thing I thought was this sounds a little strange," Muñoz admitted about the maestro's idea for the show. "It was upon hearing the music for the first time that it was clear this was going to be great, it just wasn't clear it would become what it has." The star went on to talk about his life story and how he sees theater as an education tool. Check out the interview below.
Tony Yazbeck Switches It Up With Joshua Henry
Broadway favorite Tony Yazbeck will replace the previously announced Joshua Henry (who is no doubt non-stop with Hamilton in Chicago) at the upcoming New York Pops Underground concert. Also starring Montego Glover and hosted by Steven Reineke, the event will take place on September 19 at Feinstein’s/54 Below.
Estelle Parsons to Helm The Last Days of Judas Iscariot
Tony-nominated actress Estelle Parsons will direct Stephen Adly Guirgis’ The Last Days of Judas Iscariot as part of La MaMa’s 55th season. The revival is scheduled to run March 9, 2017 through March 26; it made its premiere in 2005 at the Public Theater, helmed by Philip Seymour Hoffman. Parsons’ staging is set to feature Actors Studio members—the organization will commemorate turning 70 next year.
Watch Idina Menzel Perform From Her New Album
Idina Menzel has been hanging with her girls at Camp BroaderWay and premiered the second track, "Queen of Swords," from her new album in the picturesque setting. Idina. will drop on September 23.
P.S. Check out the new extended Olympics TV spot for Disney's Moana, which will land in movie theaters this Thanksgiving. With music from Lin-Manuel Miranda and Robert Lopez, the film includes the vocal talents of Phillipa Soo, among others.
