Broadway alum and recent The SpongeBob Musical star Nick Blaemire will headline an off-Broadway revival of Tick, Tick…BOOM! this fall; tickets are now available for the production. The musical kicks off the Keen Company’s 17th season, which will also include the world premiere of Courtney Baron’s When It’s You.
Keen Company Artistic Director Jonathan Silverstein will helm both productions, which will take place in the Clurman Theatre at Theatre Row.
Blaemire recently appeared in The SpongeBob Musical in Chicago as Plankton. His previous New York credits include Godspell and Cry-Baby on Broadway and Found and Dogfight off-Broadway. He is also the composer of the musical Glory Days.
Larson’s semi-autobiographical Tick, Tick…BOOM! follows an aspiring composer just before his thirtieth birthday. As he questions his legacy and the presentation of his new musical approaches, Jon balances his relationships with Susan, his long-term girlfriend, and Michael, his best friend. Larson began developing the musical in 1990—six years before the premiere of Rent and his untimely death. His material was reworked for its off-Broadway premiere in 2001. Performances will run from October 4 through November 19, with opening night set for October 20.
When It’s You, which explores the effects of gun violence in modern America, will begin performances on February 21, 2017. The show follows Ginnifer, a woman in her 30s who moves back to her hometown following her mother’s death. Upon her return, she learns her first love is now involved in a violent crime. The play was developed in the Keen Company’s Playwrights Lab. The production is scheduled to open officially on March 9 and run through April 8.
Further casting for both productions will be announced at a later date.
