Marissa Jaret Winokur Eyes Hairspray Live! Cameo
Marissa Jaret Winokur, who won the Tony for her portrayal of Tracy Turnblad on Broadway, would like to make a cameo on NBC’s Hairspray Live!. "I'm down for anything," she told ET. "I just want to be a part of it and have fun. I'm excited." Newcomer Maddie Baillio will be playing Winokur’s former role, and she’s advised her to: “Be the best you you can be. Just bring joy and happiness and embrace all your fans.” The telecast is scheduled to air on December 7, with a cast including Kristin Chenoweth, Jennifer Hudson, Harvey Fierstein and Ariana Grande.
Stars Set for Drunk History's Hamilton Episode
Who lives, who dies, who tells your story? Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development) and Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) will take on the roles of Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s upcoming Drunk History episode. Expect fresh insight into the famous characters when the show airs November 29.
Fyvush Finkel Dead at 93
Fyvush Finkel, a star of Yiddish theater and an Emmy winner for Picket Fences, died on August 14 in Manhattan, aged 93. The New York Times reports that he had been been having heart problems for some time. Finkel started his career on the Yiddish stage as a 9-year-old and made his Broadway debut in the original production of Fiddler on the Roof as Mordcha. He last appeared on the Main Stem in 1989’s Café Crown. Finkel is survived by his sons Ian and Elliot; his wife, Gertrude Lieberman, died in 2008.
Paramour Cancels Shows to Rework Production
Cirque du Soleil-Paramour has canceled the August 22, 24, 25, and 31 performances at Broadway's Lyric Theatre to make creative changes. The production stated: "True to our roots as street performers, our shows evolve over time to reflect feedback from our consumers and our creative team."
