Singin’ in the Rain is taking a rain check. Derek Hough has revealed that due to a lack of available theaters, the production of Singin’ in the Rain he was set to headline has been delayed. As previously reported, performances were scheduled to begin in early 2017.
Hough’s return to Broadway may be delayed, but that’s not stopping his beat. The hoofer is set to return to Dancing with the Stars this fall, and he’ll take on the role of Corny Collins in NBC’s Hairspray Live!
“Singin’ in the Rain is still very much part of my future plans,” Hough assured in a Facebook post. “I’m grateful to everyone at Hairspray Live! for enabling me to do double duty on two major productions at the same time this fall. This next year is gonna be jam packed with exciting projects, and I can’t wait to share it all with you.”
The six-time Dancing with the Stars champion will be paired with TV and stage alum Marilu Henner for the ABC series’ 23rd season. Her Broadway credits include The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, Chicago, Pal Joey and Grease; she also played the title role in the 2000 national tour of Annie Get Your Gun.
The new season of Dancing with the Stars will premiere on September 12. Hairspray Live! is set for a December 7 air date.
