‘S Wonderful! Full casting has been announced for the West End production of An American in Paris, which as previously reported will be led by the tuner’s original Broadway stars, Robert Fairchild and Leanne Cope. British national treasure Jane Asher, Haydn Oakley and more have been tapped for the production, which will begin performances on March 4, 2017. Opening night is set for March 21 at the Dominion Theatre.
Along with Fairchild and Cope reprising their roles as Jerry Mulligan and Lise Dassin, respectively, Asher (Alfie) will appear as Madame Baurel, with Haydn Oakley (Sunset Boulevard) as Henri Baurel, Zoë Rainey (Romeo and Juliet) as Milo Davenport and David Seadon-Young (Ghost The Musical) as Adam Hochberg. Ashley Day (The Book of Mormon) will be the alternate Jerry Mulligan and is set to officially replace Fairchild on June 19.
Directed and choreographed by Tony winner Christopher Wheeldon, the tuner tells the tale of a young American soldier, a beautiful French girl and an indomitable European city, each yearning for a new beginning in the aftermath of war.
An American in Paris features music by George and Ira Gershwin with a book by Craig Lucas. The show includes the songs “I Got Rhythm,” “‘S Wonderful,” “But Not For Me,” “Stairway to Paradise,” “Our Love Is Here To Stay," “They Can’t Take That Away” and orchestral music including “Concerto in F,” “2nd Prelude,” “2nd Rhapsody” and “An American In Paris.” The score has been adapted, arranged and supervised by Rob Fisher.
The company will also feature Julian Forsyth and Ashley Andrews, as well as Sophie Apollonia, Zoe Arshamian, Sarah Bakker, James Barton, Alicia Beck, Chrissy Brooke, James Butcher, Jonathan Caguioa, Jennifer Davison, Katie Deacon, Rebecca Fennelly, Sebastian Goffin, Alyn Hawke, Nicky Henshall, Genevieve Heron, Amy Hollins, Frankie Jenna, Justin-Lee Jones, Robin Kent, Kristen McGarrity, Julia J.
