The 68th annual primetime Emmy Awards were held on September 18, and a handful of Tony winners and stage favorites took home trophies—including a trio of American Crime Story performers.
Courtney B. Vance, who won a Tony in 2013 for Lucky Guy, received the award for Best Actor in a Limited Series for his performance as Johnnie Cochran in The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. Broadway alum Sarah Paulson also won her first Emmy for her work on the show as Marcia Clark.
The FX anthology series ultimately won for Outstanding Limited Series and also won off-Broadway alum Sterling K. Brown the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Television Movie.
Tony-winning Hamilton director Thomas Kail and Alex Rudzinski took home trophies once more for directing Grease: Live; the two won as executive producers when the Fox telecast won Outstanding Special Class Program at last week’s Creative Arts Emmys. Grease: Live previously earned awards for Technical Direction, Production Design and Lighting Design as well.
Additional recipients familiar to the theater community included Tony winner Maggie Smith, winning for Downton Abbey for the third time, and Jeffrey Tambor, who took home his second consecutive Emmy for Transparent.
