Stage and screen star Adam Driver will headline a benefit presentation of Stephen Belber’s Tape. The performance will take place on November 7 at Studio 54. Proceeds from the one-night-only event will go to Arts in the Armed Forces, an organization Driver founded that uses theater as a source of outreach to veterans and active duty service members.
The play, which premiered at the Actors Theatre of Louisville in 2000, follows three people in a Lansing, Michigan motel room. As the night progresses, they begin to recall a past incident that irreconcilably damaged their relationship, beginning with a taped confession to date rape from one. The 2001 film adaptation featured Ethan Hawke, Robert Sean Leonard and Uma Thurman.
Driver last appeared on Broadway in the 2011 revival of Man and Boy. The Girls and Star Wars star’s additional stage credits include Look Back in Anger, Mrs. Warren’s Profession and Angels in America. Last month, it was rumored that he was eyeing a return to Broadway in A Streetcar Named Desire.
Additional casting will be announced at a later date. Tickets are available here and are free for veterans, current service men and women and military families.
