Lucas Hedges—whose performance opposite Casey Affleck in the upcoming movie Manchester by the Sea is garnering rave reviews—will make his stage debut in the American premiere of Yen. Directed by Trip Cullman, Anna Jordan’s play is set to begin performances earlier than previously announced, on January 12, 2017. Opening night is scheduled for January 30 at off-Broadway’s Lucille Lortel Theatre.
Hedges just received a Gotham Award nomination for Breakthrough Actor for his performance in Kenneth Lonergan’s aforementioned Manchester by the Sea. He will next be seen in Lady Bird, opposite Saoirse Ronan and Tracy Letts, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri opposite Frances McDormand and Peter Dinklage. Additional credits include Moonrise Kingdom, Labor Day, Kill the Messenger and NBC’s The Slap.
In Yen, Bobbie and Hench are home alone. Days are filled by streaming porn, playing "Call of Duty," watching the world go by. Their mom rarely visits these days, and it’s chaos when she does. But when animal-loving neighbor Jenny takes an interest in their dog Taliban, the boys discover a world far beyond what they know. Yen explores a childhood lived without boundaries.
The limited MCC Theater engagement is slated to run through February 19. Additional casting will be announced later.
