Billy Porter Will Bring Soul to Richard Rodgers with Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr. & More on New Album

Billy Porter’s enlisting a host of Broadway favorites to bring some soul to Richard Rodgers. The Kinky Boots Tony winner will release a new album, Billy Porter Presents The Soul of Richard Rodgers. The Bee & El and Sony Masterworks Broadway album, featuring new takes on the composer’s hits, will drop in April 2017. Porter is set to team up with The Color Purple Tony winner Cynthia Erivo and Hamilton's Leslie Odom Jr., and more.

In addition to Erivo and Odom Jr., the album will include performances from fellow Tony winners Renée Elise Goldsberry and Patina Miller, Grammy nominee Ledisi, and two Tony nominees currently playing Aaron Burr on Broadway and in Chicago, respectively: Brandon Victor Dixon and Joshua Henry (both of whom co-starred with Porter in last season's Shuffle Along). More guest artists will be announced closer to the album release.

Porter won a Tony Award in 2013 for his star turn as Lola in Kinky Boots; he last appeared on Broadway in Shuffle Along. His additional New York stage credits include Angels in America, Smokey Joe’s Café and Grease. He has released three solo albums previously: a self-titled, At the Corner of Broadway and Soul and Billy’s Back on Broadway.
