From “For Your Eyes Only” to “I Only Have Eyes For You!” Grammy winner Sheena Easton, who has sold over 20 million records around the world, will make her West End debut in 42nd Street. Directed by the show’s co-author Mark Bramble, the previously reported revival is set to begin previews on March 20, 2017. Opening night is scheduled for April 4 at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.
Easton, who remains the only artist in history to have top five records on five major Billboard charts, will perform the iconic role of Dorothy Brock; she will be joined by Tom Lister (Emmerdale) as Julian Marsh and Clare Halse (Gypsy) as Peggy Sawyer.
42nd Street features a book by Michael Stewart and Bramble, lyrics by Al Dubin and music by Harry Warren. Young Peggy Sawyer is fresh off the bus from small-town America and just another face in the chorus line on Broadway's newest show. But when the leading lady gets injured, Peggy might just have the shot at stardom she's always dreamed of…The musical’s numbers include “We’re In The Money,” “Lullaby of Broadway,” “Shuffle Off To Buffalo,” “Dames,” “I Only Have Eyes For You,” and “42nd Street.”
The cast will also include Jasna Ivir as Maggie Jones, Norman Bowman as Pat Denning, Stuart Neal as Billy Lawlor, Graeme Henderson as Andy Lee, Christopher Howell as Bert Barry, Bruce Montague as Abner Dillon, Mark McKerracher as Mac/Doc/Thug and Emma Caffrey as Annie.
Rounding out the company will be Clare Rickard, Victoria Hay, Leah Harris, Jasmine Kerr, Millie O’Connell, Katy Riches, Gabrielle Lewis Dodson, Daisy Steere, Karli Vale, Sophie Camble, Christina Shand, Courtney George, Zoe Rogers, Jessica Keable, Sara Bispham, Lisa Dent, Katharine Pearson, Kirsty Fuller, Rebecca Herszenhorn, Charlene Ford, Dylan Mason, Philip Bertioli, Luke George, Ronan Burns, Eddie Myles, Ryan Gover, Sam Murphy, Freddie Clements, Zac Watts, Greg Bernstein, Kristen Gaetz, Charlotte Anne Steen, Gabrielle Cocca, Kate Ivory Jordan, Josh Andrews and Martin McCarthy.
The original 1981 Broadway production of the tuner won the Tony for Best Musical and the 1984 London incarnation won the Olivier for Best New Musical.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will close at the Drury Lane on January 7.
