Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which will bow on Broadway at some point in the near future, picked up the prize for Best Play at the 62nd London Evening Standard Theatre Awards on November 13. Meanwhile, three-time Tony winner Glenn Close beat Main Stem favorite Andy Karl in the Best Musical Performance category for Sunset Boulevard at the starry ceremony, held at the Old Vic. Close is set to reprise her Tony-winning performance in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Tony-winning tuner when the London revival transfers to the Great White Way in February; Karl is also Broadway-bound next year with the show he was representing, Groundhog Day. There was more good news for Lloyd Webber: the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production of Jesus Christ Superstar took home the honor for Best Musical.
