Current Role: After bringing down the house at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre as a church lady for almost a year, Carrie Compere steps center stage as The Color Purple's full-time Sofia. The loud and proud character is a beacon of strength that unites the women in the touching revival—and comes to rely on them for support in her own time of need.

Stage & Screen Cred: Compere has also performed on Broadway in Holler If Ya Hear Me and off-Broadway in Sistas the Musical. She appeared in the first national tour of Shrek the Musical and in a regional production of Smokey Joe's Cafe. Onscreen, you can catch her in PBS' broadcast of Show Boat: Live at Lincoln Center and on Gurland on Gurland and NYC 22.
