Nominations for the 2017 Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced on December 14. Much like this year's Golden Globe nods, a number of performers who have taken their Tony-winning performances to film and television are on the list.
Audra McDonald and Bryan Cranston, who won Tonys in 2013 for Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill and All the Way, respectively, are up for the HBO adaptations of both titles in the Television Movie or Miniseries categories. Among their peers are Tony winner Courtney V. Vance and Sarah Paulson, who won Emmys earlier this year for The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.
Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, 2010 Tony winners for Fences, are up for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role and Female Actor in a Supporting Role, respectively, for the Washington-helmed film adaptation. The cast is also up for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture; three other performers from the Broadway revival reprise their performances, including Tony nominee McKinley Henderson.
Additional nominees theater fans should look out for include Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone for the movie musical La La Land, 2016 Tony nominee Michelle Williams for Manchester by the Sea, Moonlight standout and off-Broadway alum Mahershala Ali and stage favorites Tituss Burgess and Uzo Aduba, who received nods for their work in the comedy series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Orange is the New Black.
