U.K. stage star Carrie Hope Fletcher will take on the title role in the upcoming new interpretation of Cinderella from Tony-winning hit maker Andrew Lloyd Webber. The previously announced world premiere will begin at London's Gillian Lynne Theatre on August 28.
"I'm absolutely thrilled that Carrie will be our Cinderella at the Gillian Lynne Theatre this autumn," said Lloyd Webber in a statement. "She has totally wowed my fellow writers and creative team and was a big success at the sing-through of the show late last year."
Fletcher has previously appeared on stage in Heathers, The Addams Family, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Mary Poppins. She is currently playing Fantine in Les Miserables at the newly named Sondheim Theatre.
The new Cinderella, a complete reinvention of the classic fairy tale, is based on an original idea by Emerald Fennell (an Emmy-nominated writer of Killing Eve), with brand-new music from Lloyd Webber and lyrics by David Zippel.
Cinderella will be directed by Laurence Connor and choreographed by JoAnn Hunter. Further casting will be announced at a later date.
