MCC Theater Extends Neil LaBute's Fat Pig Through February 26

MCC Theater has extended its world premiere production of Neil LaBute's Fat Pig for another three weeks. The show will now run at the Lucille Lortel Theatre through February 26, according to a production spokesperson.

Fat Pig centers on a man who is dating an overweight woman. The play traces the courtship of two people who truly care for one another set against a world that ridicules and ostracizes those who do not fit into a Hollywood realm of ideal beauty.

Fat Pig, directed by Jo Bonney, opened to mixed to positive reviews on December 15 with Jeremy Piven, Ashlie Atkinson, Keri Russell and Andrew McCarthy. In his Broadway.com Review of the piece, Edward Karam wrote: "LaBute raises honest, difficult questions about human nature: Is it possible to live without allowing peer pressure to influence one's choices or behavior? How important are looks compared to decency? What compromises should one make in a relationship? The play ultimately relies more on its fine actors to make us care about the answers than on clarity in its arguments."

Piven has already left the production; his replacement, Steven Pasquale, begins performances on January 5. Russell is leaving after the January 15 show. Jessica Capshaw will take on her part in subsequent performances. Atkinson and McCarthy are expected to stay with the show through its entire run.
