"I am really excited," Cahoon told Broadway.com. "To play such an iconic part is going to be really amazing. And to be with Philip Bosco and the rest of the cast is such an honor. Plus, I get to be evil, which is cool."
Cahoon was featured as Ed the hyena in the original company of The Lion King and has also appeared on Broadway in The Rocky Horror Show and The Who's Tommy. His off-Broadway credits include Hedwig and The Angry Inch in which he also starred in Boston, Scotland and San Francisco, The Wild Party, Encores! mountings of Hair and Babes in Arms and The Foreigner. In addition to his theatrical work, Cahoon frequently performs with his band Ghetto Cowboy at venues throughout New York.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the musical adaptation of the 1968 movie of the same name, centers on an eccentric inventor, Caractacus Potts Esparza, who has a flying car. Though Potts is happy just using the special car for family trips, others have more sinister aims, including the Baron and Baroness of Vulgaria Kudisch and Maxwell, respectively and their evil henchman, the Child Catcher Cahoon, who are all desperately trying to steal the automobile. Meat Loaf is among the stars that were previously in talks to play the Child Catcher in the Broadway production of the musical.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, directed by Adrian Noble, is scheduled to begin performances at the Hilton Theater on March 27 in preparation for an April 28 opening.
