James Marsden to Play Corny Collins in Hairspray Film

James Marsden will play television host Corny Collins in the upcoming Hairspray film, according to Variety. He joins a cast that already included Nicole Blonsky, John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer, Amanda Bynes, Zac Efron, Elijah Kelley and Brittany Snow.

Marsden is featured in two summer blockbusters, X-Men: The Last Stand and Superman Returns. He also appeared as Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, in both previous X-Men movies. His other film credits include The Alibi, The Notebook, Zoolander, Sugar & Spice and Gossip. His most notable small screen credit is being a regular on the final season of Ally McBeal.

The musical film version of Hairspray will begin lensing on September 5 in Toronto. It is scheduled to be released on December 21, 2007.
