Musical of Musicals Star Lovette George Dies of Cancer

Lovette George, a 2004 Drama Desk Award nominee for her work in the off-Broadway musical The Musical of Musicals: The Musical!, died on September 6. A source close to the actress said the cause of death was ovarian cancer.

George made her Broadway debut in the ensemble of Uptown...It's Hot! in 1986. She also appeared on Broadway in the Lincoln Center Theater productions of Carousel understudying the role of Carrie Pipperidge and Marie Christine. Off-Broadway, George starred in Eating Raoul, The Green Heart, A New Brain, Requiem for William and The Musical of Musicals: The Musical!, which closed at Dodger Stages in November 2005. Regional credits include Thunder Knocking at the Door at the Guthrie Theatre, The Hot Mikado at the Alliance Theatre and The Most Happy Fella at St. Louis Rep and Cincinnati playhouse. She also starred in the German production of Starlight Express.
