Carol Woods is headed back to the Broadway company of Chicago on June 2 as Matron "Mama" Morton. She replaces Kecia Lewis-Evans, who will play her final performance on June 1 at the Ambaassador Theatre.
Woods recently appeared as a soloist in Julie Taymor's feature film Across the Universe, performing a gospel rendition of the Beatles' "Let It Be," which she reprised on the 2008 Grammy Awards broadcast. Her Broadway and national touring credits include The Full Monty, One Mo' Time, Follies, Smokey Joe's Cafe, Stepping Out, The Goodbye Girl, Grind, Big River and The Crucible. She received an Olivier Award nomination for the London production of Blues in the Night and appeared on the London stage in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. On television, Woods was a series regular on Parent Hood.
