Cate Blanchett Coming to BAM and Kennedy Center in A Streetcar Named Desire

Cate Blanchett will star as Blanche DuBois in Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire at the Sydney Theater Company in the fall of 2009, then travel with the production to the Kennedy Center and BAM, according to Variety. Actress Liv Ullmann will direct the production, which will debut September 1-October 10, 2009, in Sydney at the company in which Blanchett and her husband, Andrew Upton, serve as co-artistic directors.

After its Australia run, Streetcar will travel to the Kennedy Center in D.C. October 29-November 21, 2009, and from there to BAM's Harvey Theater, running November 27-December 20. Blanchett played the title role in Hedda Gabler at BAM in 2006. No further casting for A Streetcar Named Desire has been announced.
