Matthew Modine, Hallie Foote Set for To Kill a Mockingbird in Hartford

Matthew Modine will play Atticus Finch in Hartford Stage’s forthcoming production of To Kill a Mockingbird, featuring Christopher Sergel’s adaptation of the Harper Lee novel. The play will run from February 19 to April 4, directed by Michael Wilson.

The cast of To Kill a Mockingbird will include Hallie Foote, Devon Abner and James DeMarse of Horton Foote’s Dividing the Estate, which has already announced a transfer to Hartford from May 28 to July 5. Horton Foote won an Academy Award for his screen adaptation of Mockingbird. Modine will also be joined by Jennifer Harmon, Nafe Katter, Doug Lyons and Olivia Scott.

Primarily known for his work on film Married to the Mob, And the Band Played On, Birdy, Full Metal Jacket and TV Weeds, Modine starred in Arthur Miller’s Resurrection Blues at London's OId Vic Theatre and Finishing the Picture in Chicago's Goodman Theatre.

To Kill a Mockingbird is a co-production with Westport Country Playhouse and will move there from April 21 to May 9. According to Variety, Modine has not yet confirmed his participation in the Westport mounting of the play.
