The London production of the Tony Award-winning Spring Awakening will transfer to the West End. The musical, which opened at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre to rave reviews on February 3, is set to begin performances at the Novello Theatre on March 21.
Spring Awakening depicts how young people navigate the thrilling, confusing and mysterious time of their sexual awakening. The story centers on a brilliant young student named Melchior, his troubled friend Moritz and Wendla, a beautiful young girl on the verge of womanhood. The Broadway production went on to win eight 2007 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and played its final performance in January. Michael Mayer directed both the Broadway and London productions.
Aneurin Barnard, Charlotte Wakefield and Iwan Rheon star as Melchior, Wendla and Moritz, respectively. Also in the cast are Lucy Barker, Natasha Barnes, Chris Barton, Jamie Blackley, Richard Cordery, Hayley Gallivan, Natalie Garner, Mona Goodwin, Evelyn Hoskins, Edd Judge, Harry McEntire, Jamie Muscato, Gemma O’Duffy, Jos Slovick, Richard Southgate and Sian Thomas.
Spring Awakening will continue playing at the Lyric Hammersmith through March 14.
