Goodman Theatre Lineup to Feature Brian Dennehy in Broadway-Bound Double Bill

Chicago’s Goodman Theatre season will include the Broadway-aimed double bill of Eugene O’Neill’s Hughie and Samuel Beckett's Krapps’s Last Tape, Artistic Director Robert Falls has announced. Both shows, the former directed by Falls and the latter by Jennifer Tarver, will star Tony winner Brian Dennehy.

Dennehy, a two-time Tony winner and Goodman regular, is already on his way to Broadway in the upcoming transfer of the Goodman’s Desire Under the Elms, which begins previews at the St. James Theatre on April 14 and opens April 27. He recently played the double bill at the 2008 Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Canada.

The Goodman’s 2009-2010 season will also feature the world premiere this year of Rebecca Gilman's A True History of the Johnstown Flood as well as Joan D'Arc, a co-production with Austria's Linz Festival by artist Aida Karic and Tanya Palmer, a spin on Friedrich Schiller's great romantic tragedy The Maiden of Orleans and High Holidays, Alan Gross' darkly comic look at coming of age in suburban Chicago in the early 1960s, and Brett C. Leonard's The Long Red Road, directed by Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman. The schedule also includes the Marx Brothers musical comedy Animal Crackers, directed by henry Wishcamper, which begins in September. The season concludes in June 2010 with Karen Zicharias’ The Sins of Sor Juana, which kicks off the fifth biennial international Latino Theatre Festival.

An additional spring 2010 production, directed by Chuck Smith, has yet to be announced.
