Stage and screen veterans Giancarlo Esposito, Jon Tenney and Sandra Oh will join previously announced stars Aaron Eckhart, Tammy Blanchard, Miles Teller, Dianne Wiest and Nicole Kidman in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of David Lindsay-Abaire’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play Rabbit Hole. The film will be directed by John Cameron Mitchell and produced by Kidman.
In Rabbit Hole, Becca (Kidman) and Howie Corbett (Eckhart) have everything they could want, until a life-shattering accident turns their world upside down, and leaves the couple drifting perilously apart. Becca, who must also cope with the distractions of her reckless sister Izzy, and their opinionated mother, Nat, takes solace in her unlikely friendship with a neighborhood teenager, Jason, who might provide the key to lead her back from the darkest of places.
The original Broadway production of Rabbit Hole, starring Cynthia Nixon as Becca and John Slattery as Howie, ran February 2, 2006, through April 9, 2006, at the Blitmore Theatre, earning Nixon a 2006 Best Leading Actress Tony Award in the process.
Lindsay-Abaire's other plays include Kimberly Akimbo, Wonder of the World and Fuddy Meers and he recently adapted Cornelia Funke's novel Inkheart for the big screen. Most recently, he wrote the book for the Tony Award nominated new musical Shrek.
The film is currently slated for a 2010 release.
