Movie producer Paula Wagner, known for flicks like The Last Samurai and Vanilla Sky, is setting her sights on producing an original musical about legendary hip-hop trio Run-DMC. So where did she go with the two surviving two members of the legendary group? Broadway, of course. On October 19, Joseph "Rev Run" Simmons and Darryl "DMC" McDaniels (Jam-Master Jay Mizell was murdered in 2002) hit up the musical that has made hip-hop a mainstream stage phenomenon, In the Heights—and judging from the photos, it's safe to say that the show's cast, and its freestyling hip-hopper creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, were pretty excited about the visit. Not unlike In the Heights, the Run-DMC musical will use hip-hop, rap and other musical genres fairly new to the Broadway stage to tell the story of the pioneering rap group, which rose from obscurity and poverty to become the first cross over success story of the now thriving rap industry.
