Tony Award nominee and recent Shrek star Christopher Sieber will star in The New Group's upcoming debut of Dan Savage's The Kid, according to The New York Times. Previews are scheduled to begin at a time to be announced in April 2010. Casting and creative details will be released at a later date.
The play is based on sex advice columnist Savage's 2000 book The Kid: What Happened After My Boyfriend and I Decided to Go Get Pregnant, which chronicles the author's real life efforts to adopt a child with his boyfriend.
Sieber received Tony Award nominations for his appearances in both Shrek and Spamalot. Additional Broadway credits include Beauty and the Beast, Chicago, Triumph of Love, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Into the Woods. Off-Broadway, he has been seen in The Boys in the Band and Avow. Television credits include Two of a Kind, Sex and the City, Ed, Pushing Daisies and It's All Relative.
The New Group's first offering of 2010, A Lie of the Mind, begins performances January 29 at the Acorn Theatre on Theater Row.
