Brittany Murphy, the raspy-voiced actress who starred in films like Clueless and 8 Mile and on Broadway in A View from the Bridge has died at the age of 32. According to the Associated Press, Murphy was found in her Los Angeles home on December 20, the victim of a cardiac arrest.
After years of guest work in TV shows like Murphy Brown, Kids Incorporated, Blossom, Frasier and Party of Five, Murphy gained attention for playing Tai in the 1995 blockbuster Clueless.
In 1997, New Jersey native Murphy fulfilled a lifelong dream and made her sole Broadway appearance as Catherine in the acclaimed Roundabout Theatre revival of Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge, opposite Anthony LaPaglia and Allison Janney.
Murphy's career began to take off shortly after her Broadway appearance, with the ensemble films Drop Dead Gorgeous and Girl, Interrupted and then in a big way with the 2002 Eminem drama 8 Mile. Other notable films include Riding in Cars with Boys, Just Married, Uptown Girls, Little Black Book, Sin City, Love and Other Disasters, The Dead Girl, Happy Feet and the upcoming The Expendables, directed by and starring Sylvester Stallone.
She is survived by husband Simon Monjack.
