Tales of purses, bra-fittings and the joys of wearing black have struck a nerve: The new off-Broadway comedy Love, Loss, and What I Wore, an intimate collection of stories by Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron, has been extended “into 2010” at the Westside Theatre. The show opened on October 1 and had originally been scheduled to run through December 13. Producer Daryl Roth also announced that Love, Loss set a house record in advance sales at the Westside, home of hits such as I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change and The Vagina Monologues. Love, Loss, and What I Wore is directed by Karen Carpenter.
Based on the best-selling book by Ilene Beckerman, as well as on the recollections of the Ephrons’ friends, Love, Loss, and What I Wore uses clothing and accessories and the memories they trigger to tell funny and often poignant stories that all women can relate to. The production will continue to be performed by a rotating cast of five all-star actors, who will perform in four-week cycles.
The opening cast (September 21–October 18) includes Samantha Bee, Tyne Daly, Katie Finneran, Natasha Lyonne and Rosie O’Donnell. The second cast (October 21–November 15) includes Mary Birdsong, Tyne Daly, Lisa Joyce, Jane Lynch and Mary Louise Wilson. The November 18–December 13 cast includes Kristin Chenoweth, Lucy DeVito, Capathia Jenkins, Rhea Perlman and Rita Wilson. Casting for the extension will be announced shortly.
The design team for Love, Loss, and What I Wore includes Jo Winiarski (scenic design), Jessica Jahn (costume design), Jeff Croiter (lighting design), Walter Trarbach (sound design) and Maria Verel (makeup design).
