A week before opening night, Manhattan Theatre Club has extended its Broadway revival of George S. Kaufman’s and Edna Ferber’s The Royal Family. Tickets for an additional week of performances are now on sale for the classic comedy, which is set to open on October 8 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. The Royal Family will now run through November 29, directed by Doug Hughes.
The Royal Family centers on the Cavendishes, a famous family of stage stars, as they go about the drama of the day: choosing scripts, dashing off to performances, stealing kisses from handsome beaus. But what’s this business about the youngest diva wanting to quit the stage for domestic bliss? Never, darling!
The cast of The Royal Family includes Rosemary Harris, Jan Maxwell, Ana Gasteyer, Tony Roberts, John Glover, Reg Rogers, Kelli Barrett and Larry Pine. Rounding out the cast are Freddy Arsenault, Caroline Stefanie Clay, Rufus Collins, David Greenspan, Anthony Newfield, Henny Russell, Cat Walleck and John Wernke.
