Rapture on Broadway: Sherie Rene Scott Show Becomes Last-Minute Season Entry

As previously speculated, Sherie Rene Scott's semi-autobiographical Everyday Rapture will replace the recently canceled Lips Together, Teeth Apart as the Roundabout Theatre Company's Broadway season closer. Written by Scott and Dick Scanlan and directed by Michael Mayer, the show begins performances on April 9 with opening set for April 29 at the American Airlines Theatre. The limited engagement plays through July 11, 2010.

Everyday Rapture is described as the story of a young woman’s psycho-sexual-spiritual journey on the rocky path that separates her mostly Mennonite past from her mostly Manhattan future. Her life takes her from the cornfields of Kansas to the clover fields of New York with a disturbing detour through YouTube. The show includes songs made famous by David Byrne, George Harrison, U2, The Dap Kings and Judy Garland.

The show will also feature Eamon Foley (13), Lindsay Mendez (Grease) and Betsy Wolfe (110 in the Shade). A cast album has already been recorded and is expected for release in May.

Scott is best known for her performances in Aida, The Little Mermaid and her Tony-nominated turn in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Off-Broadway, she has starred in The Last Five Years, Debbie Does Dallas and Landscape of the Body.

In its off-Broadway incarnation, which opened at Second Stage on May 3, 2009, Everyday Rapture featured a cast of five, led by Scott. The Broadway artistic team includes choreography by Michele Lynch, orchestrations by Tom Kitt, sets by Christine Jones, costumes by Tom Broecker, lights by Kevin Adams, sound by Brian Ronan and projections by Darrel Maloney.
