Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia is a brainy mix of pastoral comedy and historical mystery, with alternating scenes set in 1809 and the present day. A Best Play Tony nominee in 1995, Arcadia is back on Broadway with a topnotch ensemble cast directed by David Leveaux. Broadway.com resident artist Justin ‘Squigs’ Robertson headed to the Ethel Barrymore Theatre to see the show—and departed a fan of Stoppard’s intricate script. His drawing, with the 19th-century characters in blue and the 21st-century characters in gold, spotlights (clockwise from bottom) Grace Gummer, Billy Crudup, Raul Esparza, Bel Powley, Tom Riley, Lia Williams and Noah Robbins. Arcadia opens on March 17 for a limited Broadway engagement.
About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home. Photo by Matthew Murphy
