The Book of Mormon's Josh Gad Sells White House Comedy 1600 Penn to NBC

The Book of Mormon Tony nominee Josh Gad has added yet another project to his already busy schedule. In addition to his Mormon duties, his new animated series Good Vibes, filming the upcoming sex-addict comedy Thanks For Sharing and writing a TV pilot, Gad has reached a "put pilot commitment" with NBC for a second show, the White House-themed comedy 1600 Penn, according to Deadline.com.

Gad co-created the project, which follows a dysfunctional First Family, with frequent Modern Family director Jason Winer and Jon Lovett, a former speechwriter to President Obama. The "put pilot commitment" means NBC will have to pay substantial penalties if the pilot doesn't air, thus greatly increasing the chances that the pilot will be picked up to air on the network.

Gad, Winer and Lovett will co-executive-produce the pilot, with Winer directing and Lovett penning the script. Gad is currently at work writing another pilot script for NBC in collaboration with Will Ferrell's production company. "It's an homage to one of my favorite films from the '80s," Gad recently told Broadway.com of the project.
